How About a Democratic Version of Zoltan Istvan
In jest, a friend of mine suggested that one of the Dem candidates once asked: What if we rage on behalf of the machine?
His question got me thinking. Initially, his question prompted this comment from me:
"""
I think all of this talk about robots and artificial intelligence is really just a bunch of hype. Why, it will be at least another 20 years before we have to let them vote.
Also, don't forget, it's not just about robots running for office. Down the road, there may be many AIs living in virtual worlds.
And there may be people with brain-computer interfaces to a personal exocortex in the cloud.
All of these possibilities raise interesting questions for democracy.
"""
So, what is happening on this front in the 2020 election?
Recently, I've blogged about a Republican Transhumanist - Zoltan Istvan - who is running for president in 2020.
However, to my knowledge, there are no Democratic Transhumanist candidates running for office. So, in jest, I've decided to invent one: Michael Istvan.
If Mike Istvan ever decides to run as a transhumanist, my guess is that he will want to have his mind uploaded into an exocortex in the cloud. That way, he will be able to become immortal and control not just his own flesh-and-blood body, but also a vast number of robotic bodies.
With a vast number of robotic bodies at his command, Mike Istvan could staff an entire corporation - one where each of his robotic bodies plays a different role in said corporation. He will become the first true "corporate man."
So, with the arrival of corporate man, the question for democracy will be: Is it one vote per exocortex or one vote per robot body.
