Some old questions about God, and some new ones about Super-AI

First, some definitions from Google search:

"Omnipotence means God is all-powerful. This means God has supreme power and has no limitations. Omniscience means God is all-knowing."

Now for some old questions about God's omnipotence and omniscience and there modern day Super-AI equivalents.

Omnipotence and Omniscience

1. Omnipotence Questions:

  • Classic question: Can God create a stone so heavy that not even s/he can lift it?
  • Current day equivalent: Can God create a virus so deadly that not even s/he can cure it?

2. Omniscience Questions:

  • When God created the world did God know how everything would turn out?
  • If so, then is everything predestined?
  • If everything is predestined, then how can God give man free will?
  • If God can see the future, then can God change God's mind and thus change the future?
  • Can God predict when God will change God's mind about what the future shall be?
  • Does God have free-will if God can foresee the day when God changes God's mind?
  • If God knows what we are going to decide to do, then do we really have free-will?

The big problem of suffering question (see Book of Job):

  • If God is All Powerful and if God is Good, then why does God allow suffering (e.g. Job's suffering) and why does God allow evil to inflict suffering (e.g. the Devil is allowed to torture Job)?
  • The problem with suffering: It sure looks like God is either not all powerful or not good.

Answers to all of the above God questions:

  • How dare you ask these questions about God! Do you want to go to hell?
  • Your small mind cannot possibly understand the infinite mind of God.
  • Anyone who questions the omniscience, omnipotence, or benevolence of God must be in league with the Devil. So, don't listen to him, just listen to me, your preacher.

Conclusion to the God Q&A:

  • Philosophy is about asking the big questions that cannot be answered.
  • Religion is about insisting on answers that cannot be questioned.

Modern day versions of God Questions in the Context of Science:

  • To what extent can we create an AI/Machine Learning system (i.e. a Super-AI, a technological singularity) that is both Omniscient and Omnipotent?
  • Should we be doing this in the first place?
  • Should we be able to rule it? If so, how?
  • Should we let it rule us? If so, will that be good for us?
  • Should we try to merge with it? If so, will we still be us?
