Increasing Speed in IIT JEE Exam

Hello everyone! While attempting our JEE exam we often run out of time and this lead to a great loss in our marks.

There are basically 2 factors which decide how you will score in your JEE Exam.

1. Accuracy of your attempted questions.

2. How many questions you can do within those hours.

The first one obviously depends on your level of preparations but in this blog, I will be discussing about how to increase your speed while attempting for the exam. Increasing your speed will eventually result in increase of the the marks you get!

Let's get started.

  • One thing that I know about the people, who do good in any exam, is that their mind works faster than their pens. Yes, your mind is the first weapon while attempting your JEE exam. You see some students do more than half of the calculations in their mind and then reach a particular place from where they start using the pen. What's exactly the point to that? Whenever you get a question, don't just blindly start doing any calculations or solving on your paper. Think for a few seconds about the question and try doing the max amount of calculations within your mind, then pick up your pen and reach the final answer. This thing actually works. If I talk about myself, during practice paper or test paper from the coaching institute, I tried to reach to the solution within my mind and if that doesn't happen I went further with my pen and paper.

  • Have you ever noticed that you are able to do some questions faster than the other ones? Why is that? The reason is that you have attempted those type of questions more than the other type. Let me explain this through an example. You got a mathematics question and you identified within a second that it is from Bayes' theorem. You just applied the theorem and got the answer in 30 seconds. How you got the answer so fast? The reason is that during your preparatory phase you practiced these sort of questions maybe 10-12 times and now you can easily identify what you have to do instead of just hitting around. There may be some topic that you practiced just 2 or 3 times and you are most probably to miss out the concepts based on that topic and take much more time while solving the questions related to that topic. This is called identifying a question and the concept. Some student take 2 to 3 reading to understand the question while others understand it in one go. This affects your speed in exams a lot. So, what's the main conclusion of this point! Start reading the text books and don't just rely on your class notes. Reading is a habit that's extremely useful and comes handy during these times. Practice as many questions as you can from most of the topics that will help you identify the question much faster and you'll save a lot of time in your final attempt.

These are the ways through which you can actually double or triple your attempting speed. Make your brain work more than your pen, read a lot for better question interpretation, practice a lot to identify the concepts in questions.

All the best buddies!
