At least 50 personnel, including Cachar Superintendent of Police Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakant, were injured in the firing and stone pelting, a senior Assam Police official, who was present in the forest amid continuous cross-border firing, said.

CM Himanta Biswa Sharma expressed grief by tweeting.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sharma tweeted, "I am deeply saddened to inform that six brave soldiers of Assam Police have laid down their lives on the Assam-Mizoram border protecting the constitutional boundary of our state. My condolences to the bereaved families.

During the conversation, the miscreants started firing

The senior police officer said that the miscreants suddenly started firing from across the border when civil officials from both the sides were holding talks to resolve the differences.

According to the information, 50 policemen are estimated to be injured.

Giving information, the officer said, "I cannot immediately say how many people have been injured, but my estimate is at least 50 personnel. Our SP was also injured in the firing and one bullet hit his leg." The IPS officer spoke to PTI when he was hiding inside a forest.

200 Assam Police personnel forcibly crossed the CRPF duty post.

Speaking on the tension along the Assam-Mizoram border, Mizoram Home Minister Lalchmalliana said that around 200 armed personnel of Assam Police led by IG of Assam Police came to Vairengte auto-rickshaw stand today. They forcibly crossed the duty post of CRPF personnel posted there and damaged the duty post of Mizoram Police.

Mizoram Home Minister accused Assam Police of firing during talks.

Lalchmalliana said that tear gas shells were fired at the Mizoram Police and then there was firing from the Assam side. Despite talks with the Assam Police inside the CRPF duty camp of the SP's Kolasib district, the Mizoram Police retaliated and opened fire on the Assam Police.

The issue should be resolved in an atmosphere of peace and understanding.

Mizoram Home Minister Lalchmalliana further said that the Mizoram government wants the inter-state border issue with Assam to be resolved in an atmosphere of peace and understanding.

There is a dispute regarding encroachment.

The border dispute between the two states erupted after the Assam Police launched a drive to remove alleged encroachments on their land. On July 10, when the Assam government team went to the spot, it was attacked with an IED by unidentified persons.

On the other hand, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga tweeted a video of the clash between police and citizens tagging Home Minister Amit Shah and requested him to take immediate action on the matter. The Prime Minister's Office has also been tagged in this.
