Tottenham Transfer Talk on Wednesday 14th
Tottenham Transfer Talk on Wednesday 14th
Good morning folks and welcome to a wonderful Wednesday and Tottenham Transfer Talk on Wednesday 14th.
Fabio Paratici signed free agents for Juventus and Spurs made a shrewd purchase last season, snapping up Pierre-Emile Højbjerg with just a year remaining on his contract.
Will Tottenham start to snap up quality free agents on high wages or will we look for bargains with just a year remaining on their contracts?
We have been linked with Danny Ings who is refusing to sign a contract extension and has reportedly told Southampton he wants to leave.
They either sell him or lose him on a free next summer.
Journalists are guessing that Nuno wants to play with two up front as use this as the reasoning for Spurs desire to sign him.
It would give the club a proven Premier League goalscorer should Harry Kane leave next summer.
Those of you looking for Takehiro Tomiyasu information, well my readers know that is already done, he'll wear the number 21 shirt this season.
They provide advice and support as well as campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
Romero has brilliant positional skills, like Toby Alderweireld and that is a result of reading the game well.

Jules Kounde
Are we killing two birds with one stone?
Buying a centre-back and selling another, the error prone and mentally weak Davinson Sanchez?
That is the suggestion of Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
He says Tottenham and Sevilla have reached an agreement for Jules Kounde and Davinson Sanchez to swap clubs.
The deal he suggests is Tottenham to pay Sevilla €30m (£25.65m - US$35.46m - US$47.59m) plus Davinson Sanchez.
However, Kounde wants Champions League football and Di Marzio suggests the player wants to think about the offer before he accepts the move.
In other words, he wants to wait for a better offer.
Why is Sanchez for Kounde a good deal for Sevilla?
Sevilla, indeed every team in Spain are strapped for money so this potential deal looks like a good one, getting money and a replacement.
French side Bordeaux have 20% of any profit when Kounde is sold by Sevilla, thus this deal, instead of a straight cash deal, reduces the amount they have to pay Bordeaux to €1m (£852,380 - US$1.18m - US$1.58m).
Kounde was Sevilla's fifth signing of the 2019/20 window when he arrived for €25m (£21.31m - US$29.45m - US$39.48m).
This is a rather important aspect for Sevilla so I would think Sevilla will be putting pressure on Kounde to accept, it's in their best interests.
Has Paratici sold his Spurs vision?
We know he has spoken to Kounde's agents, in fact he has been speaking to them for the last 3 weeks, but has he managed to sell the future, rather than the present, to Kounde?
If Paratici hadn't received encouraging noises from Kounde's team, then we would not have negotiated a player deal with Monchi at Sevilla.
In our favour is the wages we can offer compared to his current wage of €52,500 (£44,752 - US$61,841 - US$82,824) per week and no doubt there would be a signing on sweetener too.
Tottenham could easily double that and take into account Davinson Sanchez wages of €76,252 (£65,000 - US$89,824 - US$1.2m) per week, it looks a fantastic deal for Spurs too.
If Spurs can pull this off it will be a very encouraging start to our window.
Isco
Another player Spurs have been linked with for at least 3 years is Spanish international Isco.
The Real Madrid midfielder has just a year left on his contract and he has been told it will not be extended.
The Spaniards need to raise money and reduce their wage bill. Isco is an opportunity to get a high wage off the books.
They have 35 players on the books and can only name 25 in their LaLiga squad so 10 players will need to find new clubs.
He is said to be available for just £6m, but earns £5.9m basic, before bonuses which will double that.
Personally, I would think he is likely to go to a club in the UEFA Champions League, being in the tournament is so important to the pull of a club.
Cristian Romero
Yesterday I spoke about the loan system with an emphasis on the Italian Serie A in which Juventus hold the prominent strategic position.
A Juventus player out on a 2-year loan deal to Atalanta, with an option to buy for €16m (£13.67m - US$18.97m - US$25.33m) is 23-year-old (24 next April) Cristian Romero.
The Argentinian international (5 caps, 1 goal) centre-back who played in the Copa America 2021 Final, in which Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0, is a player Fabio Paratici will know well.
Reports in Italy suggest they will buy him and sell him at a profit immediately if they can and are asking in the region of €60m (£51.29m - US$71.14m - US$94.99m).
They have raised the figure from a pre-tournament €45m (£38.47m - US$53.36m - US$71.25m) suggest the Italian press.
I suspect that is simply because it is Premier League clubs showing an interest. Clubs like to raise the price if English clubs want a player as our sides have more money, thus clubs abroad like to try and cash in.
From what I hear Atalanta would accept a percentage of a sell on fee, €35m (£29.92m - US$41.50m - US$55.38m) plus healthy and achievable bonuses.
Manchester United hold an interest but only if they can't sign Raphaël Varane from Real Madrid, both Liverpool and Arsenal have been following him while Barcelona have been watching his progress but are short of money.
Mentioning Varane, he may be using Man Utd simply to apply pressure to Real Madrid who have offered him a new contract.
Varane has rejected RealMadrid’s bid to extend his contract until 2025 on €7.5m-a-year. He wants a contract until 2026 on €12m-a-year.
Stefan de Vrij
I have seen Stefan de Vrij's name mentioned and I can confirm that Paratici has had discussions with his team about a move to Spurs.
Stefan de Vrij is a 29-year-old (30 next February) Dutch international (49 caps, 3 goals, 1 assist) central defender playing in Italy for Inter Milan, who are in deep financial trouble.
He joined them from Lazio on a free transfer in July 2018 and is under contract until 2023.
Samuel Umtiti
The French international (31 caps, 4 goals) centre-back in under contract until 2023 and is being tracked by Manchester United and Arsenal.
Umtiti does not want to leave Barcelona, but the club want to force him out so there is a bit of a stand off.
In financial difficulty they need to sell and reduce their wage bill before they can buy.
He has had several knee injuries over the last three years and boss Ronald Koeman no longer sees him as part of his plans.
As a result, he would be an expensive option, at least not in terms of transfer fee. he earns over €230,000 (£196,545 - US$272,378 - US$364,234) a week.
In fact, I hear that Barcelona will allow him to leave for free to get him off their books.
Could Spurs sign both 27-year-old Samuel Umtiti and 31-year-old Miralem Pjanić from Barcelona for nothing, with no buy-back clauses, but on high wages?
How would you all feel about that?
Maxence Lacroix
It is being reported by Bild and all the regurgitation outlets that RB Leipzig have decided Maxence Lacroix is deemed too expensive and that the club who finished 2nd in the Bundesliga last season, are looking elsewhere.
This, of course, demonstrates these people don't know how the football industry and especially the transfer system works.
ALL clubs have lists of players they are interested in, ALL clubs negotiate with several players at any one time for each position to find out rough costs, willingness of the player to join and their rough financial requirements, while revealing the clubs desired financial offer.
The buying club will decide what is the best option, not simply who is the best player.
That is what RB Leipzig are doing.
They have offered €22m (£18.84m - US$26.03m - US$34.88m) for Lacroix, but Wolfsburg want €30m (£25.65m - US$35.46m - US$47.59m).
Buying a centre-back is linked to the sale of Marcel Halstenberg to Borussia Dortmund, but that is dragging on because Dortmund can't find a buyer for Nico Schulz.
Schalke 04 centre-back Ozan Kabak is an alternative who is interesting Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Stade rennais (France) and Leicester City.
Tottenham, as you know, have also been keeping an eye on his progress.
Schalke were relegated and have financial consequences so need his wages off their books and to raise transfer funds to aid their push to climb straight back.
RB Leipzig also face competition from Bayer Leverkusen for the 21-year-old (22 next March) who should be available for around €15m (£12.82m - US$17.70m - US$23.81m).
Kabak is not currently training with Schalke as Sporting Director Rouven Schröder has released the Turkish international (12 caps) for an extra week to sort out his future.
He is not expected to play again for Schalke.
Amos Pieper and Nico Schotterbeck
Tottenham are also watching two more centre-backs that interest Leipzig too.
The first is 23-year-old (24 next January) Amos Pieper who plays in the Bundesliga for Arminia Bielefeld and the other is 21-year-old (22 in December) Nico Schotterbeck of SC Freiburg.
Pieper is under contract until 2022 so the former German U-21 international (10 caps, 1 assist) has entered his last year and would be available below his true market value.
Nico Schotterbeck is a former German U-21 international (13 caps, 3 goals, 3 assists) who is under contract until 2023.
Alfonzo Pedraza
Alfonzo Pedraza is a winger, who can also play as a left-back that Tottenham have been watching in LaLiga.
The 25-year-old (26 next April) plays for Villarreal and could also play as a left wing-back.
It isn't a priority position for Spurs with Ryan Sessegnon returning to the club after his loan spell in Germany, but clubs continually watch players for positions they don't currently need to be prepared for when they do.
Vítor Ferreira
Vítor Ferreira, known as Vitinha, was at Wolves on loan while Nuno Espirito Santo was there.
It is reported that super agent Jorge Mendes has offered him to Tottenham for the same €20m (£17.09m - US$23.65m - US$31.67m) Wolves can buy him for.
The 21-year-old (22 next February) Portuguese U-21 international (17 caps, 1 goal, 2 assists) attacking midfielder is under contract at Porto until 2024.
Porto wish to raise funds to balance their books ready for the return of stringent FFP rules.
Daniel Prodence
Yet another Portuguese player we are being linked with, as expected, is Joge Mendes client, Daniel Prodence.
Jorge Mendes is Nuno Espirito Santo's agent too and guess where else he has been linked with?
Yep, you guessed it, another Jorge client José Mourinho at Roma. What a coincidence!
The 25-year-old (26 next January) Portuguese international (1 cap) winger is under contract until 2024 but Mendes likes his clients to move around so he can earn another commission.
Prodence has scored 4 goals and had 3 assists in 33 Premier League games. That equates to a goal every 491 minutes and a goal participation time of 280 minutes.
He had surgery on 17th May to remedy a groin problem so he won't be ready until early August at the earliest.
Injuries have restricted his performances perhaps because he looks to be a better player than he has shown so far.
Three goals in 24 Premier League games last season isn't good enough for a player of his ability.
