Netflix to launch a game streaming platform come 2022

Netflix plans to launch a game streaming platform come 2022. Coming from this top-notch video streaming platform, this initiative will sure help boost their popularity even more. And for game lovers, it might just be a dream come true.

Although it is already known worldwide for its films and series, Netflix does not intend to stop there. The firm plans to expand its know-how by developing streaming video games.

For Netflix, this adventure would make it possible to find new areas of growth to add to streaming. Indeed, in recent years, competition has been increasingly fierce and new offers are regularly developed. We can cite, for example, the platforms of Disney + and Amazon Prime, which also currently offer films and series. Note that each offers exclusive content, making them more competitive.

Being a good project and vision, they will also have to face video game leaders like Microsoft and Sony who have been in this field for a long time now. They will also have to offer countless games for all connected devices to capture more users.

A unique platform for game lovers

Netflix intends to incorporate this new functionality on its site. Thus, streaming video games will then be placed in a separate section, such as series and films. These will be categorized as a new category on the platform. The real advantage for subscribers is that there is no additional cost to access this service. Indeed, the games will be accessible in the same way as the other content of the site.

According to Steve Moser, iOS developer and editor of TheTapeDrive, this project would be called Shark. Its logo will include a shark fin. Among the visuals, there will be game controllers from PlayStation 5 and a visual from Ghost of Tsushima.

Reed Hastings, the head of Netflix even claimed that his competitors are not just the big names in streaming. He plans to enter the market for entertainment platforms accessible on mobile such as World of Tanks, Arabian Betting, which offers poker, blackjack, slots and many other traditional or newer casino games, as well as other games accessible on mobile like Forge of Empires, etc.

Now, the big question is to know whether this on-demand game streaming will be in such a way that a controller will be required to play or will it be possible to play directly with a smartphone, or even a remote control? What games will be offered on the platform? What are the technological means used to make this concept work?

Only time will tell as we cross our fingers waiting for this new project to be brought to life.
