উদ্দেশ্য প্রকাশার্থে যে সব infinitive phrase "adverb-এর মত" কাজ করে তাদেরকেই adverbials of purpose বলা হয়। এ ধরনের adverbial গুলি সাধারণত finite verb এর পরে অর্থাৎ বাক্যের শেষে ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন,

Right: Man eats to live. 
Wrong: To live man eats.

Right: I am not here to stay.un
Wrong: To stay I am not here.
