Unnecessary Use of Articles

a. যে প্রতিষ্ঠানের যা নিয়মিত কাজ সেখানে সেই কাজে গেলে তার আগে কোন article বসাতে হয় না। যেমন,

Wrong: Do you go to a/the school?

Right : Do you go to school? 

Wrong: My son is at the university.

Right: My son is at university.

Wrong: The sick man was admitted to the

hospital.

Right: The sick man was admitted to hospital.

Wrong: I am going to a mosque.

Right: I am going to mosque.

N.B. প্রতিষ্ঠানের আগে article বসালে সেখানে যাওয়ার ভিন্ন উদ্দেশ্য বুঝাবে। যেমন,

I went to a hospital in Sydney.

এখানে বুঝানো হয়েছে যে আমি সিডনী শহরের একটি হাসপাতাল দেখতে গিয়েছিলাম, সেখানে রোগী হিসেবে চিকিৎসার জন্য যাইনি। 

Parliament-এর আগে কখনো the বসে না। যেমন,

Wrong: This matter was discussed in the parliament.

Right: This matter was discussed in Parliament.

b. কোন নির্দিষ্ট প্রতিষ্ঠান বুঝাতে Proper noun আগে বসলে তার আগে the বসে না, কিন্তু common noun আগে বসলে তার আগে the বসে। যেমন,

Wrong: He reads in the Rajshahi University. Right: He reads in Rajshahi University.

Wrong: He reads in University of Rajshahi. Right: He reads in the University of Rajshahi. 

Wrong: We visited the London city. 

Right: We visited London.

অথবা

Right: We visited the city London.

c. ভাষা, সাহিত্য কিংবা অন্য কোন পড়ার বিষয় ইত্যাদির আগে কোন article এর প্রয়োজন হয় না। যেমন,

Wrong: The English is an international language. 

Right: English is an international language.

Wrong: He studies the Bangla literature. Right: He studies Bangla literature.

Wrong: I can speak the Urdu.

Right: I can speak Urdu.

Wrong: He is a student of the chemistry. Right:  He is a student of chemistry.

d.  Uncountable noun indefinite article (a. an) বসতে পারে না। যেমন,

Wrong: Would you have a tea?

Right : Would you have tea?

অথবা

Right: Would you have a cup of tea?

Wrong: He bought a furniture.

Right : He bought a piece of furniture.

Wrong: The man died of a cancer.

 Right: The man died of cancer.

Wrong: This a wonderful cricket. 

Right : This  wonderful cricket. 

Wring: We cannot live without an air.

Right : We cannot live without air.

Wrong: She showed a kindness to me. 

Right : She showed kindness to me.

Wrong This is a pure gold.

Right : This is pure gold.

e. God বা Allah-এর আগে কোন article বসে না। Wrong: Let's pray to the Allah/God.

Right : Let's pray to Allah/God.

কোন plural noun যদি definite না হয় তাহলে তার আগে কখনোই definite article ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। যেমন,

Wrong: The birds fly in the sky.

Right: Birds fly in the sky.

Wrong : The poets write poems

Right : Poets write poems,

Wrong: The critics hold this opinion about him

Right : Critics hold this opinion about him.

Wrong : The people say this,

Right :People say this.

Wrong : Everybody loves the flowers

Right: Everybody loves flowers.

Wrong: The women are weaker than the men.

Right : Women are weaker than men.

Wrong: The books are our best friends.

Right : Books are our best friends.

Wrong : The cats are fond of milk.

Right: Cats are fond of milk.
